My Story

Some people might think I’ve had more than my share of trials and heartache in life.

  • I’ve learned to form meaningful relationships and love myself despite a wildly dysfunctional and abusive childhood and first marriage.
  • I’ve beaten the odds and bounced back from life threatening disease; with an even stronger body and attitude.
  • I’ve recovered from traumatic injury and lived to hike the Andes Mountains, to Machu Picchu.

I could go on and on.  I could tell you details about other losses and disappointments that would leave many of you picking your jaw up off the floor.  But that doesn’t make me special.  Many of you have probably had similar experiences.

My childhood and ‘starter marriage’, the dis-ease and injuries, my obstacles, losses or disappointments do not define me.  I am defined by how I responded to them.

In each case I was faced with the choice; to become a victim, or to be a victor.  I’ve chosen to face my heartaches, head-on, and walk through the fire to make it to the other side, as a victor, not a victim.  Looking back in hindsight, some of the fires were the size of scented candles, while others were more like forest fires.  But I made a conscious choice, to push through, with fierce determination, all the same.

Over time, with a lot of work, and a lot of help, I have created a truly rich, joyful, life.  I have love, abundance, a grateful heart, a strong body and a peaceful mind. I’ve found the love of my life. I’ve come to terms with my birth family.  I’ve learned to accept my body and I appreciate all that it offers me.   Along the way, I’ve even learned to box, meditate, belly dance and practice yoga.

But more importantly, I have developed the personal power to face even formidable challenges, or ‘Life Lessons,’ (as I call them) and make even tougher choices without losing this joy.  I’ve learned to live a fiercely positive life.

And so can you.

Whatever your personal heartaches; whether abuse, disease, disorder, loss or disappointment; whatever your trials, worries, challenges, fears, or dreams; you can learn to tap into your own personal power to live a fiercely positive life full of gratitude, abundance, joy and confidence.

I believe that my experiences have all led me to this.  My Life Lessons forced me to discover some of the great secrets of Life, in order to survive – timeless secrets that other survivors and victors have also learned.  And, I believe that I am obligated to share those with others.  Even more than that, I feel honored to share these with you.

I’m not a therapist or doctor.  But, given the Life Lessons I’ve been blessed to have encountered, you might say that I am an experiential expert.  I’ve walked many of the same paths you are walking, now.  With a commitment to a fiercely positive future, I’ve created my own path of optimism, hope, transformation and meaningful relationships.

At pivotal times in my life, I’ve had help and support from very special people who have helped me learn to reconnect with myself, to rediscover my power and have the strength to choose to live a positive life.

My hope is that The Power to Live Blog will do the same for you.

Connie,
I just wanted to say that since I started working with you, I’ve followed your advice and used the techniques you recommend on your blog and it is having a huge impact on my life already.

In the face of some major life challenges recently I found myself saying,

“I’m not so easily deterred. It’ll take more than that to stop me.”

That represents new power to live that I have always had in the past.

I know that sharing this all with the world represents a huge leap of faith and a big investment on your part.

So, Thank you.

I know that many other people will soon get to experience the same incredible boost of “life power” that I have from your simple, but effective techniques.

Best,
Jon
