The Act of Nurturing an ‘Attitude of Gratitude’

Gratitude and thanks are one of the most powerful things you can connect to, in your Life.  They make you aware of all the things you currently have in your world, so you can sincerely appreciate them.

Articulating your thankfulness, according to the laws of the Universe, creates room in your Life for even more people, experiences and things you can be grateful for.  That’s a pretty cool deal, right?

By my calculations, as long as you’re mindfully expressing your appreciation, you’re always coming out ahead.

That’s pretty awesome, since there aren’t many ‘sure things’ in Life.

If someone held the door for you, offered you a cup of tea, or paid you a compliment, you’d thank them, wouldn’t you?

It’s like a reflex.

It’s such a natural reaction; you probably wouldn’t give it much attention.  Someone gives you something and you acknowledge it.  It’s as simple as that…

Think of all the things you are blessed with, all the things that make up your Life, on a daily basis.  Here are a few ideas to get you started; your family and friends, your health, opportunities, experiences, memories and your thoughts and feelings.

Are you on ‘auto-pilot’, taking those things for granted and not giving them much thought most of the time?

We get so busy, being busy with our lives, that often times we don’t take note of the amazing things that make up our day.

We overlook the everyday miracles that surround us.  These wonders are under our noses, just waiting for us to discover them.

It takes ‘fresh eyes’ on our part, so we can become aware of them and then become grateful that these items are, indeed, a part of our world.

Starting today, why not make a list of the things you are grateful for?

If this isn’t one of your daily habits, like brushing your teeth or hair, I encourage you to incorporate it into your day.  I think you’ll be amazed at how subtly it will impact your Life, in a very positive way.

Take out a piece of paper and start a list of the things in your Life you appreciate.  If you’re not into writing lists, then create a running list in your head, while you’re waiting for the bus to arrive or for the light to change.

It doesn’t matter how you do it.

It only matters that you do it.

And that you do it, daily

Trust me on this.

Confucius understood this, over 2000 years ago when he said:

‘The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.’

Be thankful you took your first step towards gratitude, today.

Do you practice gratitude, daily?  Has it made a difference in your Life?  If so, how has it impacted your Life?  Do you sometimes slip out of the habit of being appreciative, daily?  Do you notice a change in your Life, when this happens?  Who or what are you most thankful for?  Please leave your comments, using the form, below.
